Qualified Teaching Status

What is Qualified Teaching Status?

To teach in publicly funded primary, secondary, and special schools in England, you must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Private schools and academies can hire teachers who do not possess QTS, although many still prefer candidates who do.

Teachers qualified outside the UK can teach in England for up to four years without QTS. However, holding QTS may enhance prospects for securing a teaching position in England.
